Gypsy siguiriyas, soleares and soleariyas, written by Gabriel María Vergara, professor of geography and history who showed a special interest in recovering and compiling proverbs and folk singing, that he himself defines as clear demonstrations of the traditional wisdom.

Amongst the multiple folk songs of the beautiful Andalusia, the so-called andalusian style of singing stands out, which is not to be mistaken with flamenco, for having one or other distinctive characters very marked, while the typical song of this one is rondeña, and belongs to it, amongst others, the one of Málaga and the one of Granada, the characteristic song of that one is gypsy siguiriya, and contribute to make up the soleares, soleariyas, carcelares, marrtinetes, polos and cañas, forming amongst all these different kind of songs a special group, sui generic, so-called andalusian style of singing, which is typical of the gypsies’’ In this present  volume of Gabriel María Vergara collects many songs extracted form different classical works on the subject, just as from the oral tradition of Andalusia.
